This is a shame- I received the first 4 chapters as a preview on Netgalley and rated those 4 stars. Overall, this was a passionate romance between two strong BIPOCs who have to learn to make room in their independent lives for love. The reason this isn't getting a higher rating for me is that, outside of the romance, I found all the historical jargon rather dull and found myself skimming whenever job situations were happening. ![]() I also really appreciated that the age gap between them wasn't some big deal, and neither of them obsessed over it. They were supportive of each other's goals and careers. While both are strong characters on their own, neither of them outshone the other. Their distance does not put out the intimate fire between them.īeside the physical intimacy, one thing I love about long-distance romances is the emotional connection that is formed between the women. ![]() Then every time our leading ladies are together, they definitely make the most of it, and in between those meet-ups, they aren't shy and enjoy phone sex. It starts with a one-night stand that's so much more than a one-night stand as soon as it starts. I was not expecting the amount of steam I would encounter, and I am not mad about it. Looking at the cover, I thought I was in for a light contemporary romance with a good amount of emotion because of the struggles that come with a long-distance relationship. ![]() ![]() When you read this book you will notice the incredible care and detailing that went into the language and worldbuilding of the Teixcalaani Empire with obvious influences from the pre-colonial/conquest Aztec Empire as well as influences from the Nahuatl languages. in medieval Byzantine, global, and comparative history at Rutgers University. Bri is captivating and real, which is why the stakes were so high. Bayron has crafted a character that the reader can truly care about. Bri’s emotions are so palpable, they lift effortlessly off the page. ![]() ![]() I really struggle to read books about bereavement, but Bayron writes about grief in such a compelling way. As I stepped back into her world, the tone was potent, and I felt the weight of grief suffocating the protagonist. Bri’s journey was a thrill from start to finish, and there is just far too much to unpack in one review. Every chapter of This Wicked Fate topped the final moments of the previous book. One of the reasons I rated This Poison Heart so highly was because of the incredible ending. ![]() Every image was like a little painting in my mind.
